NOTES ON THE EDWARD BERNAYS CASE  1

“Bernays was undoubtedly one of the most significant men of the 20th century who played an important role in shaping the world we know today. He was named one of the 100 most influential Americans of the 20th century by LIFE magazine.”  - Peter Katz, Museum of Public Relations

"Bernays is a professional poisoner of the public mind, exploiter of foolishness, fanaticism and self-interest." - Felix Frankfurter, Associate Justice of the United States Supreme Court, 1939-62

"Much of Bernays's reputation today stems from the persistent public relations campaign he conducted during the final 30 years of his life to build his own reputation as the so-called Grandfather of Public Relations". - Larry Tye, Bernays Biographer

The "Edward Bernay's Case" project is centered around the various aspects of the psychoanalytical encounter between Public Relations pioneer Edward Bernays (1889-1995) a nephew of Sigmund Freud, and Dr. A.A. Brill (1874-1948), an Austrian-American student of Sigmund Freud, exploring its many components.
